Wolghine Square is the name of our village centre; the heart and soul of the Witchcliffe Ecovillage. Many of the project’s key public buildings open out onto its beautiful green spaces. “Wolghine” is the local Wadandi mob’s name for “ocean spirit” and also the name of our main northern entry road into the Ecovillage.

The Ecovillage Community Centre (and current WEV sales office) sits nearby, and our future village pub and café, nature playground, Creative Hub, backpackers’ accommodation and mixed use lots will all open out onto the square when completed.

Wolghine Square itself is a pedestrian-only space, landscaped with shade trees, public art and street furniture with plenty of spots to park your bike, sit and have a chat, play chess, picnic or listen to some busking. Eventually, as the Ecovillage grows, we envisage regular food and crafts markets, performances, exhibitions, outdoor theatre / cinema and other small-scale events. Accessibility is a feature of the village square design, to ensure that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the public facilities.

Adjacent to the square is a petanque court and nature playground, and flowing pedestrian and cycle paths that adjoins the playing field and the beginning of the longer Ecovillage walk trails.
