The design of a new village requires a huge amount of design information. The Ecovillage design team includes engineers and designers across a range of disciplines including electrical, road, irrigation, stormwater, sewerage systems, communications and geotechnical, as well as wastewater treatment chemists, landscape architects and planners.
This team of staff and consultants has now pulled together design information that includes gravity sewers, sewerage pump stations, dams, irrigation mains, irrigation systems, wastewater treatment plant, power supply, lighting, microgrids, paths, drainage swales, stormwater treatment systems, fire-fighting water supplies, roads, parking, street trees, feature stone walls, playing field, playground and general landscaping. All of this information has been coordinated with the lot layouts as the comprehensive blueprints for a new village.
Needless to say, there’s a enormous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to get a project of this magnitude, complexity and innovation off the ground.
Tender invitations, which include the comprehensive package of drawings and specifications, have now gone out to construction contractors and we are looking forward to contractors finalising tender submissions prior to Christmas, ready for works to commence in February next year.
We have expanded the scope of our construction works to cover all of the roads and drainage in Stages 1, 2 and 3 due to the strong level of interest from lot purchasers. This will also allow us to avoid impacts on our pioneer residents from future construction works and will allow us to start getting street trees and landscaping established as soon as possible.
Once civil construction commences, the majority of the property will be a construction site, so only authorised personnel will be permitted. However, we will endeavour to keep you up to date with regular photos and reports through our newsletter, social media and blog.
