Open Day – Sunday, 3 November 2019

It is with great excitement and relief that we have finally locked in the date for our first major launch event, the Ecovillage Open Day. We have pushed out the event a month later than previously stated for operational reasons but also feel confident this later date will give us a better chance for beautiful, sunny weather and enable us to show off the site to the full.

Planning for this event has now begun in earnest. We are imagining a wonderful waste-free event with information, food, music and fun, which will showcase the sustainability of this unique project. There will be talks by and a Q&A panel session with senior Ecovillage staff in the main marquee covering topics including building, water, energy and community gardens, plus displays and stalls about hempcrete, electric vehicles, wastewater and more. Project founder, Mike Hulme, will lead a guided walking tour of the site. We aim to have Stage 1 surveyed and pegged out to enable visitors to better spatially understand the site and the lots. And to celebrate the joy of this milestone event, we hope you will join us for a convivial sundowner from 3.00 – 5.00pm to conclude the day.

Stay tuned as we develop our plan for this fantastic event and follow us on Facebook for regular updates.

Lot prices and pre-sales opening

To align with our Open Day and the commencement of pre-sales, we will be releasing lot prices for residential clusters 1A, 1B, and 1C in Stage 1 in mid-October. These will be published on our website and our database will be notified through the newsletter and direct email as soon as they become available.

The Ecovillage will open for pre-sales in the week following the Open Day at which time prospective residents will be able to put down a deposit to secure a lot. We will provide more information about this process as we finalise the details and ensure you have plenty of notice to get your ducks in a row!

Ecovillage presentation in Fremantle – Friday, 18 October

Attention Freo folk! Ecovillage founder, Mike Hulme, will be giving a presentation on the Witchcliffe Ecovillage at the Fremantle Fibonacci Centre at 19 Blinco Street, Fremantle on Friday, 18 October.

With our Open Day date now locked in, we are eager to spread the word about the Witchcliffe Ecovillage as we know we have a lot of interest from Perth people and Freo residents in particular. This talk will whet your appetite and hopefully encourage you to make your way south to our launch event in Witchcliffe on 3 November to hear in more detail about this complex and visionary project from senior members of the Ecovillage team and to tour our magnificent site.

We’ll keep you up-to-date on this event as we finalise more details. But in the meantime, mark your diaries and follow us on Facebook for updates.

New website in development

In recognition (and celebration) of the impending launch of the Ecovillage, we have started work on a new website, which reflects the project’s new phase of development. Among many benefits, it will offer additional and streamlined functionality, including an e-commerce facility; present up-to-date sales information, plans and a document library; and provide an improved, intuitive interface with inspiring imagery in a beautiful, simple design.

We are aiming to launch the new website in mid-September, but you will hear more from us before then. You will still be able to find the new website at the same address ecovillage.net.au

Our team grows

The Ecovillage team continues to grow with new (and returning) faces bolstering our delivery expertise.

Builder, Wade Brown, is the latest to join the team and brings a wealth of construction and design experience gained from working in New Zealand and Australia. He is currently contributing to the development of house designs and costings, and will be a key player in our construction delivery team.

We welcome back permaculturalist and regen ag expert, Byron Joel, who has periodically consulted to the Ecovillage over the years. Byron is currently planning and propagating trees for the arboretum project within the Ecovillage. Read more about that here.

Ecovillage Art Sponsorship

The Witchcliffe Ecovillage is proud to sponsor the 14th annual Margaret River Independent School Art Auction, which will be held on Saturday, 21 September 2019. This popular local event is a showcase of diverse works from the region’s most prominent artists, to high-profile interstate contributors, as well as emerging local artists.

Volunteer Community Garden Group

Every month on a Thursday, a group of green-thumbed volunteers and future Ecovillagers join for a morning of gardening and convivial chatter in the Ecovillage demonstration gardens.

It’s all about community and enjoying each other’s company while planting seasonal crops, maintaining and developing the gardens and discussing the latest news of the Ecovillage over a cuppa and delicious home-baked treats. If you like the sound of this, they invite you to join them for the next meet-up on 8 August from 9.00am – 12.00pm.
